June 25, 2007 at 10:51 PM MDT Della and Jennie, we thank your for your love and encouragement! Cam has been taking medication, and been more comfortable. He is not on narcotics, however. Whatever works, I say! When he started going to therapy with Leighton, they made a goal to have him crawling by the end of June. They had to make a new goal because he IS crawling. I made a video of it, and if I can figure out how to put it online somehow, I will give all of you the link. It's a slow and frustrating process, but it's a BIG start! I picked up Cam's brother from the airport today. He's a chiropractor, and is evaluating Cam's muscles as he moves his legs. Some movements are deliberate, and some are from the pelvis. Either way, for now it's marvelous. Things are starting to fire where they should. Since he's started doing physical things, there has been no edema in his feet. Those poor things looked like sausages by the end of the day. We would have to prop them up at night, and then it hurt his back. No problem, now! Jacob made the performance dance team that practices 3 hrs. a day, has a 2-hour dance class in the morning, and helps the beginners first thing in the morning learn the cha-cha. He is in heaven! So much more safe than football....... Jon (Cam's brother) is entertaining Jacob in the living room, and I am enjoying it, too! Cam's in the shower, so he can't hear. Well, we are slowly de-junking, and it's almost fun. August (home makeover time) is coming quickly. Meredith got a job at a Mexican restaurant, and today is her first day. It was a long one for her, and she should be very tired when she gets home. A dumb joke to end the night. A Polish dog got caught in a trap. He chewed off three legs and STILL couldn't get free! Sorry if I offended anyone..... Love you lots, Sharon
June 20, 2007 at 02:19 PM MDT Hot day today. Cam tried again yesterday to do without drugs. Things got worse and worse during the day. He was able to almost relax last evening. I got the feeling to check on him and he was yelling for help, only very little sound came out. His back was on fire, and his belly was being squeezed tightly by spasms and he couldn't breathe. I helped him sit up, but it took mighty effort because of a spasm. Wow. This morning he decided that to have another day like yesterday was out of the question. He took some more pain-killers and was almost comfortable. We are looking for ways to do things without drugs. They scare him so badly! He doesn't want to get hooked on them. The pain was so bad yesterday, though, that he was trying to justify a way to end things permanently. He couldn't do it, thank heaven. I told him he had to keep taking the drugs until we found a better way to do things naturally. Any ideas out there? Things are moving forward on the house makeover. Cam had an idea to just sell this house, and then buy a lot to put the house on. Greg liked that idea-the house dude- saying it would be easier. Anyone interested in a house in Provo? NOW, they say it will be built in August. WHOA! I need to step things up here, de-junking and all! We're gonna have one heckuva yard sale the end of July. For those in Utah on July 2, we will be having a benefit concert:
"Cameron Sevy broke his back and was paralyzed in February of this year. We have organized a benefit concert to help the family on July 2, 2007. It will be held at the Red Barn at Thanksgiving Point. Starting at 6:30, The Cluffs will be playing a pre-show concert. This Blue Grass band will have your feet tapping and your hands clapping. At 7:00, our own Cherie Call will honor us with some of her fantastic music. THEN, Clog America, Utah's international touring group, will clog us all into a frenzy! These folks are more awesome than this keyboard can spell out. Come and support one of Utah County's citizens, and have a rip-roaring time to boot! Tickets are $5.00 each, or $25 for a family up to 7 members. They will be sold at the door the night of the performance. See y'all there!"
That's the ad that's in many places. If you can be there whoopie! See you in less than 2 weeks. If not, think about us, ok? Tell everyone you know in Utah so they can enjoy it. I wonder if nervous breakdowns are all that they're cracked up to be. I'm thinking maybe I'll have one, or just borrow it and see how it fits. Hmmmmmmmm. Love to all! Sharon
June 13, 2007 at 11:33 PM MDT Cam's progress with his new therapy is nothing short of miraculous! His therapist is a body-builder and believes that people with spinal injuries can be taught to use core strength to compensate for injured nerves. Muscles have memories, and they can be used! Cameron is on his knees and crawling baby moves. He can now sit up and balance for longer than he ever has before, without touching the back of his wheelchair. Check out www.sittallstandtall.com. Check under Warriors on the left side of the page. My sister is now in Ireland. She called me today (YAY!) and said that it stays light until about 11 pm and gets light at 3:30. Shades of Alaska! I am, with help, getting all of her stuff into storage, and selling the rest, or donating it. Then I get to start deeply on MY own house. Good stuff! Cam had his 4 month check-up with his surgeon. More X-rays, and this time, there was new bone-growth, and he said that everything looks wonderful and in alignment. However, there is definitely some problems with his hips, THEY are way out of alignment and need to be worked on. Then muscles are contracting because of all the sitting he does. We're working on it! Cam is a member of Toastmasters, a speaking organization, and gave their "Inspirational" talk tonight. He did a fantastic job of it. Afterwards, we went out to get some ice cream. He had a strawberry shake, and I got a chocolate (most important food group, y'all) banana marshmallow shake. Cam ate mine, and so did I. He didn't finish his own. We all shared some fries, too. Yum. Then we came home and ate dinner. Ok, a little unorthodox, but it worked for us this one time. Live outside the box every now and then. Then go back to normal.... Oh, we have a sign at our house that says "Around here, normal is just a setting on the dryer". How appropriate! Sooooooooooo, we are doing well, going with the punches, and throwing a few of our own. Hopefully, soon there will be a video for us to show you of progress. Thanks for listening, and we'll leave the light on for ya! Love you all, Sharon
June 01, 2007 at 10:30 PM MDT Cam's testing went very well, but it was hard for him to sit for 8 hours and write. We are looking forward to seeing what the results are. Anyone know PF Chang's Chinese food? That's what we had last night for my birthday dinner. All we ordered were the chicken wraps with soothing lettuce. Very descriptive, I'd say. Oh, and the won ton soup was a winner, too. This evening, we went to a local business college and got a 1-hour massage. It was nice for Cam, and ok for me, but my massage lady was very reticent, and boring. Oh, well. I know who to go to next time! I have been able to see my sister Patti 2 days in a row. Her companion went into the hospital today where they found she had a blood clot in her leg and one in each lung. What a blessing to have found it before she flew off to Scotland! She was in good spirits. We have a cousins' reunion tomorrow and I am looking forward to visiting with them again. No one has died this year, so we don't get to see each other. There are only 2 siblings left of our original (parents) family, and we don't want them to die to be able to go to the funeral luncheon, so this is the next best thing. Besides, we're going to Marie Callendar's, and they don't serve pie at funeral luncheons. I like the funeral potatoes, though. Still, the carrots in the green jell-o are too crunchy for me, and Keith steals my chocolate cake everytime. Well, Cam just woke up feeling very sore, so I am going to rub his back gently so he can go back to sleep. Good night, all! Love and kisses, Sharon
